Alabama Inmate Hurt in Gym Fight, Sues County
A prisoner whose burglary charges were ultimately dismissed has sued his jailers for injuries received in an altercation that took place in a converted gym, reports the Mobile Press-Register. The prisoner claims that his injuries were severe, and included a brain injury. A video of the incident reviewed by the Press-Register showed the plaintiff striking another inmate. The defendant's attorney says that the video makes it clear that the plaintiff was the one at fault for starting the fight, thus causing his own injuries. In addition to blaming the county for poor security, the lawsuit says that poor locks caused inmates to enter the plaintiff's cell and attack him one month prior to the gym fight.
