School District Not Liable for Student's Injury

City News Service has reported that the Los Angeles Unified School District has been dismissed as a defendant in a negligence and premises liability lawsuit involving a second-grader who left school unsupervised after classes were dismissed. The girl was hit by a truck as she jaywalked across a street on her way home, according to City News Service. The girl's family had claimed that the district was responsible for ensuring that the girl was released to a parent or guardian, but the judge did not agree that detaining the girl was mandated by law or by school policy.
