Jury Clears School District of Negligence in Pitcher's Injuries
A Washington jury has cleared a school district of negligence in a lawsuit that claimed that a former star high school pitched too many games over a short span, reports the Seattle Times. The pitcher, now 24 years old, alleged that injuries to his shoulder and elbow were caused by having thrown 425 pitches over a 16-day span. The defense successfully argued that the coach abided by the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association rules that were in place at the time, and pointed out that the dangers of high pitch counts were not then known. According to the Seattle Times, the athlete's injuries made it impossible for him to pitch again. The jury deliberated for two hours before returning its verdict.
