Family of Transplant Recipient Files Lawsuit; Says Lungs Had Cancer
The estate of a New Jersey man who died of lung cancer after receiving a lung transplant has filed a lawsuit against Lancaster General Hospital, according to the Intelligencer Journal. The lawsuit contends that the family of the recipient, who had suffered from a chronic pulmonary disease, was erroneously informed that the donor of the lungs was a teenage boy. Instead, the lungs came from a 31-year-old pack-a-day smoker. The lawsuit also alleges that the cancer was originally misdiagnosed. The Intelligencer Journal reported that over $100 million are being sought in damages.
