Lawsuit Claims Officer Violated Pursuit Policy
The Jackson Clarion-Ledger reports that civil trial proceedings have begun in the case of a 53-year-old Texas woman who was killed in a 2001 crash purportedly caused by a police officer's pursuit of a teen driver. According to the Clarion-Ledger, the plaintiffs also include two women injured in the collision. Lawsuit papers contend that the victims' car collided with the vehicle of the then 16-year-old driver who was fleeing the police officer after running a stop light. Plaintiff's attorneys are arguing that giving chase in a residential area based on a traffic violation contradicted the city's pursuit policy. The teen's car was later determined to have been stolen.
