Mother of Murder Victim Claims Sheriff's Office Negligent
An Ohio woman whose 34-year-old daughter was murdered by an estranged lover is suing the county sheriff's office for negligence, according to the Columbus Dispatch. The incident took place in 1998, when a police officer knocked on the woman's door after being summoned by a 911 dispatcher. The officer left when nobody answered, but within the home, the woman was being strangled. The dispatcher neglected to tell the police officer that the woman's three calls to 911 included screams, sounds of the woman being struck, and the sound of a phone being ripped from the wall. According to the Columbus Dispatch, the dispatcher involved received disciplinary action following the woman's death. A county jury trial in the lawsuit is currently underway.
