City Settles Bike Crash Case for $15 Million
A $15 million settlement has been reached between the city of Hanford, California, and the family of a teenager who was seriously injured in a traffic accident, according to the Fresno Bee. The plaintiffs charged in the personal injury lawsuit that the city negligently failed to install traffic signals, crosswalks, and signage at a busy intersection that had received repeated complaints. The 14-year-old victim was struck by a car when he was riding his bicycle. The boy suffered serious brain injuries that left him with the verbal abilities of a 6-year-old. He will require lifetime care. City officials have still not installed safety measures at the intersection, reports the Fresno Bee. Officials claim that according to national standards, traffic conditions at the intersection do not warrant a traffic signal.
